Tour operators are there for putting your holiday packages together, Tour operators are the holiday companies that many of us use when booking a UK or overseas trip e.g. TUI which is Thomson. In the United Kingdom there are approximately 900 tour operator office members of ABTA- The Travel Association.There is a major difference between Travel Agents and Tour operators, Travel Agents sell holidays and a range of other travel products, tour operators actually assemble the different parts of a holiday, by dealing with airlines, hotels and other accommodation providers, coach companies and other travel service companies.
Types of Tour Operators
There are 4 different types of tour operators and here they are:
Mass-market operators- e.g. Thomson and Thomas Cook (Thomas cook is a private sector they aim to make a profit) Specialist operators- e.g. Cox & Kings, Kunni, Himalayan Kingdoms Domestic operators- e.g. YHA, PGL, Shearings Holidays, Haven Holidays Incoming tour operators- e.g. Evan Evans Tours, Titan Tours, Gullivers Sports Travel |
